Costa Rica experienced a significant annual deflation rate of 0.61% in July 2025, a notable increase from the 0.22% decline recorded in June. This represents the most substantial drop in prices since October 2024. Among the thirteen main consumer categories, prices fell in six sectors, with transportation experiencing a 4.96% decrease, information and communication declining by 4.11%, and clothing and footwear seeing a 1.68% reduction. Other categories that registered declines included food and non-alcoholic beverages at 0.13%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 0.57%, and furniture and household goods and services at 1.17%. Conversely, certain sectors saw price increases, notably education with a 3.59% rise, followed by restaurants and lodging at 0.98%, and various goods and services at 1.85%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 0.52%, bouncing back from an almost negligible change in the previous month.
